Juvasshytta Lodge is located north in Jotunheimen National Park and is the closest cottage to Mount Galdhopiggen Summit.
This mountain lodge has wonderful views of the Mount Galdhopiggen Massive and Mount Glittertinden.
There are daily glacier guiding over the glacier Styggbreen to Galdhopiggen in the summer season. The lodge is the second highest tourist lodge in Norway. The lodge is closed in winter, but usually open at weekend of May 17th and from June. Closing in the end of September.
Perfect starting point for the great hike Pearls of Jotunheimen National Park
We visited the mountain lodge at July 25th. As you can see at the photos, there is a lot of snow there also in the summer season. The glacier Styggbreen is located a kilometer from the lodge.
There was also a very small ski lift in the area, Galdhopiggen Summer Ski Center by Vesljuvbrean, but not in operation when we visited. You may also look into if the ice cave is still there. If it is, please not the limited access.
Juvasshytta Lodge facilities
We had three course dinner there and breakfast the next day. Reservations recommended, both for beds and meals.
Small kiosk. Dorms. Room for drying clothes. Living room. Basic standard, but very mountain cozy. Nice staff.
Approx. 1840 meters above sea level.
Contact Juvasshytta Lodge by telephone: +47 61 21 15 50.
Access to Juvasshytta Lodge by car road from Galdesanden, Rv. 55 from Lom and over Sognefjellet. Find it on a map and get directions before driving there. No access by car before end of May because of snow at the road.
If you want to set up your own tent, please note that it is very much rocks there.
These are not the best photos, but the coming photos will be better. We promise 🙂
The other starting point for Mount Galdhopiggen Summit Ascents is Spiterstulen Lodge, this is a lot tougher.
