The Most Popular Hikes in Bergen

These Bergen hikes are popular for both locals and tourists. For the locals it is most popular in the weekends, but also in the weekday evenings. The tourists visiting Bergen go hiking here all the time. The weather in Bergen changes rapidly, dress wisely.

Mount Ulriken Hike

The Ulriken summit is 643 meters above sea level.

This very popular hike is a 20 minutes bus ride from the center of Bergen. The most popular path is now upgraded with steps almost all the way to the top, the path is called Oppstemten.

The hike path is uphill all the way and rewarding of nice views along the trail. The path may be some slippery when it is snow here.

This hike is for most fit people. Expect to use 50 minutes one way.

Getting to the Mount Ulriken hike

Hop on the bus from the very center of Bergen, next to the shopping mall Xhibition to Montana (bus stop name), line number 12. Cost is NOK 38, approximately 4 USD or €4.

There is also a cable car from the start area to the top of Mount Ulriken.

Mount Floyen Hike

The Floyen summit is 320 meters above sea level (at the view point).

This popular Bergen hike starts in the very center of Bergen. You may combine this hike with a funicular ride either up or down from the top. Expect to use minimum 45 minutes one way, 1 hour if you walk quite slowly.

You can walk from the fish market in Bergen to the lower funicular station in 5 minutes, this hike starts here.

These two hikes above are the most accessible hikes in Bergen.

Hiking Mout Ulriken to Mount Floyen

The day-hike between Ulriken and Floyen is also very popular. We suggest that you go this hike only during the spring, summer and autumn. During the winter this hike will be tough for most people.

Expect to use approximately 6 hours from summit to summit.

The following next two hikes are most popular for locals because it might be little bit difficult to find the starting points and you need transport from the center of Bergen.

Mount Lyderhorn Hike

The Lyderhorn summit is 396 meters above sea level.

This hike is the furthest from the center of Bergen, but still quite close. Please note that the hike might be longer than you expect, especially if you look at the mountain from the center of Bergen.

No kiosks or cabins at this hike.

Getting to the Mount Lyderhorn hike

Go by bus from the center of Bergen to Loddefjord, approximately 15 minutes by bus.

Mount Lovstakken Hike

The Lovstakken summit is 477 meters above sea level.

We suggest that you start at Melkeplassen, next to the grocery shop Coop (bus stop name). It might be little bit difficult to find the start of the hike. we also suggest that you return to this point.

No kiosks or cabins at this hike.

Getting to the Mount Lovstakken hike

Go by bus from the center of Bergen to Melkeplassen, approximately 15 minutes by bus.
